Understanding the NORSU Grade Scale
The NORSU grading system uses a 1.0 to 5.0 scale where 1.0 (95% and above) is the highest possible grade and 3.0 (75%) is the minimum passing mark. A grade of 5.0 (below 75%) or F (Failed) means the student did not meet the passing requirements for the subject.
A grade of DROP indicates the student officially dropped the course within the allowed dropping period. Dropped subjects do not affect the Grade Point Average (GPA) computation.
The General Weighted Average (GWA) or Grade Point Average (GPA) at NORSU is calculated by dividing the sum of (Grade Point × Subject Units) by the total number of units taken. Use the NORSU GPA Calculator to compute your GPA automatically.
Academic Standing Based on Grades
- Good Standing: General Weighted Average (GWA) of 2.5 or higher with no failing grades.
- Probation: GWA below 2.5 or a failing grade in any subject. Students on probation may be restricted to a reduced load.
- Dismissal: Repeated poor academic performance may result in academic dismissal, subject to the university's retention policy.
